South Bay Communications & Security is a leading security systems company based in the Hampton Roads region for 24+ years. Our expertise encompasses the full spectrum of security solutions, including planning and design, installation, repair, and maintenance services for a range of commercial and industrial properties across the seven cities that make up Hampton Roads, and nationwide.

Our Story
The year was 2000, and three people sat huddled around computers in a garage in Chesapeake with a singular focus—to build an exceptional communications company that could stand the test of time. It was then that brothers, Chris and Wally Bruce, along with Wally’s wife, Kim, launched South Bay Communications, Inc.
Chris and Wally weren’t new to growing a business -- it’s in their blood. As preteens they worked with their father and grandfather in the family business, so they’ve long understood how to work hard for something, and how to work together.
After going their separate ways in college, Chris and Wally found a way to team up again in adulthood. After graduating from ODU, Wally found an opening at what used to be called an “interconnect company” (what people more commonly know today as communication companies). This position as a field technician allowed Wally to learn all the ins and outs of structured cabling, and all the pieces that worked to create complex business connections. In 1997, Wally’s company was hiring for technicians, so he asked Chris to relocate to Chesapeake. Shortly thereafter, the brothers were reunited, and it was then the two brothers realized that with their skillsets, they could start a venture of their own.
Since then, Chris and Wally have worked diligently to build a foundation that would allow their business to not just function, but to flourish. By building a foundation of long-term, loyal customers and dedicated employees, South Bay has steadily grown over the years adding the security division in 2008 and fire division in 2022. It was also in 2008 when the company rebranded to what we know today as South Bay Communications & Security.
Today, Chris and Wally no longer operate out of their garage. They now have close to 50 employees and are headquartered out of the Greenbrier section of Chesapeake. They also recently purchased a standalone building off Yadkin Road.
In their 20+ year tenure, South Bay has been able to assist hundreds of businesses with their communication and security needs and has become a highly trusted and dependable name in the industry. Our portfolio includes best-in-class electronic and physical security solutions, such as access control and security management system, intercom and telephone entry systems, alarm systems, security cameras, video surveillance systems, and fire systems.
